Meeting Your Design Challenges
Carefully considering every element in the room is what we do as interior designers. On a recent project, the homeowners wanted both a fireplace and a TV in their main living room. This was our design challenge. Each one could be a stand-alone focal point worthy of a prominent place in this family living room.

Oftentimes when the TV is placed over the fireplace, it is too high and not in an optimal place for viewing. We rely on the electronic experts to give us the information needed to choose the best TV for each space. If you already have the TV or want a certain size, we use information to influence the design. Here is one of our resources. http://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/by-size/size-to-distance-relationship
Fireplaces are romantic and comforting. TV’s can generate every emotion depending on the programming. Heat generated from a fireplace has to be considered when placing artwork or electronics in an adjacent or close proximity. Furniture choice and placement are carefully measured for optimal comfort and viewing. In this room, we created a design that put the fireplace and the TV side by side.
A third element to this particular design was the importance of family Ping Pong Tournaments. Our client wanted to have the ability to store the ping pong table inside to protect it and have easy access. We bumped the fireplace/TV wall out to add storage behind and used an electric fireplace that is 7” deep.
The project is complete and the client now has a family living room that is very functional and beautiful. This custom design incorporated all three requested elements in the available space. We look forward to working on the next design challenge presented to us and will share the end results here on our blog.
